Upcoming Genealogy and History Meetings
DNA SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
The GENCOM SIG will meet Wednesday, 8 October 2014 at 10:00 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, Shreveport, LA. The DNA Special Interest Group meets monthly and is a DNA workshop which will meets on the second Wednesday of each month. DNA Special Interest Groups meet to discuss the application of DNA testing to genealogy research. Genealogical research using DNA testing started in about the year 2000. In 2004, researchers began using the tests to solve genealogical problems, as well as searching for a possible match. DNA SIG is an informal meeting and is for anyone who has tested and for anyone who is considering testing. Many DNA questions are resolved by just talking in a small group setting or one on one basis. Anyone interested in DNA Testing for genealogy research is welcome to attend our meetings. All meetings are free and open to the public. For more information and details call (318) 773-7406 or email email@example.com.
GENCOM GENEALOGICAL COMPUTER SOCIETY
The GENCOM Genealogical Society will meet Sunday, 26 October 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, Shreveport. We will be celebrating Family History Month 2014 with a special meeting we call GENTECH. For this meeting we are asking that members and guests of GENCOM take some time to present to our group and guests some of the computer technology and traditional research tools they use in their family history research. The goals of this meeting will be to inform our membership about some of the genealogy research tools that they may not realize are available for their research. We will introduce our guests to the activities of GENCOM and the benefits of belonging to a local genealogical society. GENCOM members will be available to answer questions and provide advice to anyone interested in genealogy/family history research, whether they are beginners or experienced researchers. Everyone is welcome and the meeting is free and open to the public. For more information and details call (318) 773-7406 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
