Upcoming Genealogy and History Meetings
27 April 2014 - The GENCOM Genealogical Society will hold their regular monthly meeting on Sunday, 27 April, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, Shreveport. Our April meeting will cover tracing our female ancestors. There is no doubt that researching female ancestors can be very difficult. One thing that makes this difficult is that the women’s surnames disappear when they marry and we have no idea in which direction to go to find this new surname. Each of us that have researched our female ancestors knows that they did not leave the same paper trail as their male counterparts. This presentation will give some tips and guidance in finding these elusive ancestors. Two special cases where simply going back over the land and court records revealed the married name of several female ancestors and knowing the maiden name of a female ancestor led to discovering the location of the paternal side of the family. Everyone is welcome and the meeting is free and open to the public. For information call (318) 773-7406 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
