November 12 - GENCOM’s DNA Special Interest Group will meet Wednesday, November 13, at 10:00 a.m. in the Broadmoor Branch Library large meeting room. Our meeting will cover basic and advanced information about DNA testing and provide tips on how to analyze DNA test results using the tools that are provided on the internet. This will be a discussion meeting and we will take time as needed to answer questions from anyone in attendance. If you have questions about which DNA test to take and which company to use for the testing, we will provide the answers for you. Also, if you have a specific question about your DNA test results, bring your laptop and we will assist you in analyzing your test results.
November 17 - The GENCOM Genealogical Computer Society will hold their regular monthly meeting on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Broadmoor Branch Library. In order to celebrate Thanksgiving with each other and with our ancestors, members and guests are asked to share a short story to the group in answer to the question, “If I Could Invite an Ancestor to Share Thanksgiving Dinner with Me, Who Would it be and What Questions Would I Ask Him/Her”? The teaching topic for the second part of the meeting will be “Tips and Hints on Researching Your Collateral Ancestors.”
December 11 - GENCOM’s DNA Special Interest Group will meet Wednesday, December 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the Broadmoor Branch Library large meeting room. Meeting topic to be determined.
December 15 - The GENCOM Genealogical Computer Society will hold their Annual Christmas Party on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Broadmoor Branch of the Shreve Memorial Library. Our Christmas Party will include plenty of genealogy fun including games, good food, good fellowship and lots and lots of door prizes.
FOG – The Friends of Genealogy meet on Thursdays 9:00A.M. at the Broadmoor Branch Library in the Genealogy Department to work on their ongoing obituary project. They talk about family research, answer any questions or help a fellow member with their genealogy research.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Meetings meet monthly on the following days at Podnuh’s Bar-B-Q.
Computer Graphics/Photo SIG - First Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Caddo-Bossier Window Users Group – Second Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Microsoft Windows SIG – Fourth Thursday at 7:00 p.m. NOTE! The November and December meetings are combined into one meeting on the First Thursday of December for this SIG.
GENCOM members Bernie and Glenda Conradi conduct these Special Interest Groups and all members of GENCOM should find them of interest.
J. C. Barnett’s Word/Excel SIG Group has moved their meeting and will meet with Bernie Conradi’s Windows Class. These classes are held the third Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church, 290 Idema Street off Linwood Avenue. If you need help in either Microsoft Windows and Word or Excel, these are the meetings to attend.
