Upcoming Genealogy and History Meetings
DNA SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
The GENCOM SIG will meet Wednesday, 8 October 2014 at 10:00 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, Shreveport, LA. The DNA Special Interest Group meets monthly and is a DNA workshop which will meets on the second Wednesday of each month. DNA Special Interest Groups meet to discuss the application of DNA testing to genealogy research. Genealogical research using DNA testing started in about the year 2000. In 2004, researchers began using the tests to solve genealogical problems, as well as searching for a possible match. DNA SIG is an informal meeting and is for anyone who has tested and for anyone who is considering testing. Many DNA questions are resolved by just talking in a small group setting or one on one basis. Anyone interested in DNA Testing for genealogy research is welcome to attend our meetings. All meetings are free and open to the public. For more information and details call (318) 773-7406 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
GENCOM GENEALOGICAL COMPUTER SOCIETY
The GENCOM Genealogical Society will meet Sunday, 23 November 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, Shreveport. This meeting should be one of the best of the year. Brandi Newman, Public Land Analyst at the State of Louisiana Land Office will present a program on using the Louisiana State Historical Land Records in our genealogy/family history research. This presentation will provide information about the documents contained in the Louisiana State Land Office Historical Records Collections. Included in the presentation will be detailed instructions on how to locate the documents on the State Land Office website, primarily with genealogical purposes in mind. Knowledge of how to access and recognize how these records will help us in gaining an understanding of where our ancestors lived, their migrations, and financial circumstances.
Everyone is welcome and the meeting is free and open to the public. For more information and details call (318) 773-7406 or email email@example.com.
