Upcoming Genealogy and History Meetings
DNA INTEREST GROUP - MARCH MEETING
GENCOM DNA Interest Group will meet on Wednesday, 11 March 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the large meeting room of the Broadmoor Branch Library. We will discuss the basics of DNA testing and answer any questions that attendees have about DNA testing. We will also be discussing more about using the DNAGEDCOM.COM tools to analyze your FTDNA Autsomal test results. Everyone is welcome no matter the level of interest in DNA/Genetic Genealogy testing. Come join us as we learn about this fascinating new tool for our genealogy research.
GENCOM BEGINNING GENEALOGY/FAMILY HISTORY CLASS
On Friday, 20 March 2015 GENCOM will continue the series of beginning genealogy classes in the Genealogy Department of the Broadmoor Branch Library. The meeting will start at 10:00 AM and will last for approximately two hours. These classes are primarily for the beginning genealogists but we will assist with specific questions from those who need help with more advanced research. Our second class will cover how to use library research, census records and online family trees to assist in completing your pedigree chart and discover the events in the lives of your ancestors. There will be a short tour of the library genealogy department to familiarize attendees with the many services the library offers to help in genealogy/family history research.
GENCOM GENEALOGICAL COMPUTER SOCIETY - FEBRUARY MEETING
The GENCOM Genealogical Society will meet Sunday, 29 March 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Broadmoor Branch Library, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, Shreveport. GENCOM’s second vice president, Kathy Love, will present a program "In Search of our Roots." Kathy and her sister travelled to New York the past two summers and made several interesting discoveries along the way. The power point presentation will include pictures of historical interest in the upper New York state area, living relatives they found, as well as a few surprises they encountered along the way. It is always exciting to hear a fellow family historian tell of the trips and successes they have experienced in researching their ancestors. Hope to see you there.
